Today is a very unique day in modern American history. In 1945 we dropped an Atomic bomb on Hiroshima that devastated a nation, but was the turning point in ending a World War. Hundreds of thousands died in just a moment but aggression was stemmed. It was a devastating blow and a horrible way for mankind to react. However, if we believe Spock and his quote: “The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few,” then the event really wasn’t as infamous as we might want to think. After all it was an event to bring peace to the world. One could say that the redeeming factor was that we, as a nation, did the right thing (generally) by investing in the nation and helping them rebuild, providing them with people like Demming who helped their economy recover and take an international lead in quality for many years.
Twenty years later (on this day) Lyndon Johnson completed one of John Kennedy’s objectives by signing the Voting Rights Act. It prohibited voting discrimination against minorities in our country and initiated our efforts to build a state of equality for all people, regardless of race, religion, etc., etc. Idealistically we, as a nation, took a step toward a concept that is theoretically and plainly very right. It was a famous effort on mankind’s part to try to enact or legislate fairness in the world’s largest and most mature economy.
Yet, is there truly peace and equality in today’s world? Of course not. Mankind will always be rampant with the seven deadly sins and biases which justify distorted mindsets that only Satan himself would approve of. Utopia will never exist here and there will always be bias, anger, stress and conflict until Christ returns. Therefore, we must learn to live in a world with famous people and decisions as well as the infamous and their decisions. Most of all, you must find joy – real honest to goodness joy, despite the circumstances around you. Only then will you be famous in God’s Kingdom.
Let me give you an example. In 2 Timothy 4: 6 – 8 Paul said this as he left to be executed: “For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time for my departure is near. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.” Paul was executed by one of the most wicked men in history who dipped Christians in wax and used them as torches in his garden. Yet all that power led him to suicide.
Becoming famous in God’s Kingdom will keep you from infamy in both this world and the eternal. It will drive you to leave people better rather than bitter. It will cause you to love instead of hate. It will provide you the strength to give rather than take, even when there is little to give. Most of all when people present their biases and world views, you can keep them in perspective and be the light in darkness. There is no true equality on this earth. Each person is created uniquely so no one can be the same as another. It is a fallacy. The key is understanding your uniqueness and living it to the maximum, which will Glorify God and bring respect from those who understand the truth. I wish it could be different, but I would be lying and not loving, if I did not tell you the truth. You’re going to be fine. Keep doing what you know is right and keep your focus on what matters.
