Yesterday we talked about being able to live our lives with more joy, hope and peace by establishing and developing your spiritual dimension. The development of that spiritual dimension is, within itself a calling. Basically, you are “called” to have a spiritual dimension because you were created with that capacity. Some people simply don’t want that aspect of life as they enjoy living in the visual realm – they have no depth. Others don’t care for the boundaries of the spiritual world because they may not always be to their liking or perceived advantage. So some simply do not want or desire spirituality.
The majority of people in the world want to have that something extra, but they are confused by so many different avenues that purport paths to spirituality. That is why there is disagreement among people about how to become spiritual. The challenge is that if there are many ways to spiritual fulfillment which is best – more argument/confusion. It would seem to me that if there were many ways or paths to God, then He would be in a constant state of motion trying to run around meeting those differing paths to welcome individuals into a chaotically diverse spiritual realm. I personally cannot see that happening. If He is truly a “superior being” it’s more plausible that we come to His address, on His terms, not have Him come to where we think He ought to exist and how we think He should get there. I think this is where we humans get messed up – we want to be the boss of the superior being. I cannot think of anything more ludicrous.
Since we were created with that spiritual dimension, there must be a reason or purpose for each of us having that dimension. Now, since each of us is different, THAT is where the uniqueness comes into play. THAT is where the DIFFERENCES COUNT! THAT must also be a calling, but one that is secondary and specific to our place and position in time and space. That is where we will apply our unique genetics and cultural influences. That is where our personalities mesh with the spiritual aspects or gifting’s that blend together for our life’s work and purpose. That secondary calling is where we exist and must flourish during our spiritual journey in a chaotic and confusing world.
Our superior being knows what we need to survive and flourish. That is why we were given talents and abilities. When the spiritual dimension is added, we become better than the initial creation. We get, shall we say, supercharged with superior knowledge, information and wisdom placed at our disposal for the asking. What we cannot do is question the resource. Since He is superior, there is a greater complexity of reasoning behind the finished product necessary for the desired results. He is the “Man with the plan.” Our role is to simply follow the directions. We cannot do that without spiritual insight.
His plan is that we should be where we are for such a time as this. We simply have to walk through our life’s path and use spiritual insight during that walk, rather than a normal human reaction. It’s simply using the superior resource to address issues rather than spur of the moment, knee jerk reactions. To do that there is really a simple process that will help us develop multiple skill sets. We will talk about the skills in the days ahead. Today here’s the simple plan:
- Develop your spiritual self (or calling) by answering God’s call.
- Live in your secondary calling that God has assigned you. In 1 Corinthians 7:20 Paul tells us that this assignment is given to us for a reason. Use it to develop your freedom and opportunity, knowing that this is where Jesus wants you. He did it. He spent his first 30 years as a carpenter.
- Understand that both callings are sacred and neither are secular. If you have been called by the spiritual world into a specific vocation to do something it cannot be secular. You are a spiritual ambassador to the secular world in whatever vocation.
